Everything about how memberships bill, change, and end, written from what the app actually enforces today. Green means it is live in the app right now. Blue means you decided it. Grey means it is on the build list. Rory answered the last two open questions on September 22: Unlimited members can book ahead across their whole 28 day period, up to 15 sessions, and members get 10 percent off session packs.
Your website updates were also policy, and on September 14 you answered every open decision on this page. The table keeps the record of what moved; the decisions below now show your answer and where the build stands.
| What | Before | Your Sep 8 copy | Our read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Those Who Serve discount rate | Aug 20 Slack (Rory, ts 1787264906.431169): 'Those who serve, change discount to 15%'. Aug 24 draft doc: 15 percent with verification. App: SERVE15, regular x 0.85. Live site has said 15 percent since Aug 21. | Sep 8 website copy: '10% off memberships. Applies to standard pricing and cannot be combined with founding pricing.' | 10 percent wins as the latest written decision. Confirm with Rory in one line that she knows the live site has said 15 since Aug 21, then change the site and the app together. At 10 percent, founding pricing beats Those Who Serve on every tier, so 'cannot be combined' costs nobody anything while founding spots remain. |
| Retail discounts by tier | Aug 20 Slack set Unlimited at 10 percent off retail and left Essential and Complete at 'existing approved perks'; the app was built as Essential 10, Complete 15, Unlimited 10; the rules page raised decision 8 because the top tier had the smaller perk. | Sep 8 cards: Essential '5% off retail purchases', Complete '10% off retail purchases', Unlimited '10% off retail purchases', Core no retail line. | Sep 8 wins. Decision 8 closes with these numbers. Change the catalog and rerun the guard. |
| Founding promises held back versus now public | Aug 20 Slack (Rory, ts 1787264265.522859): 'Please also remove specific promises about founder pricing, locked-in rates and first access to booking times until the offer has been completely finalized.' | Sep 8 copy promises all three plus more: protected founding pricing while continuously active, a $200 welcome kit, a preview session for two, and 48 hour early booking for opening week. | Treat the Sep 8 copy as the offer being final. Lift the hold on social and waitlist marketing, move the founding section from PROPOSED to DECIDED, and write the 'Founding membership terms' the site now references. |
| Single session and member drop-in pricing | App: standard drop-in $60, member and guest rate $54 (hard-coded, plus an unused topOffDiscountPercent: 10). Rules page decision 10 asked Rory to confirm $60 and $54. | Sep 8 copy: 'Single sessions will be available for $60.' and a $60 Single Session card. No member rate mentioned. | $60 standard is confirmed. Keep $54 for members and guests as an internal rate until Rory answers; do not publish it. Ask her directly whether it stays. |
| Those Who Serve eligibility | Rules page and app: 'first responder, military, or EMS' (app tags include ems). | Sep 8 subheader: 'Membership benefits for fire, police, and military personnel.' | Ask Rory whether EMS is in. If yes, suggest the subheader reads 'fire, police, EMS, and military personnel'. If no, remove the ems tag from the eligible list. |
| Founding rate after a lapse | App: a FoundingMembership row keeps the founder eligible for founding pricing every cycle, and nothing forfeits it on cancellation (and scheduled cancellations are never executed today). | Sep 8 copy: 'while your membership remains continuously active'. | Build forfeiture into the cancellation close-out and the lapse path so the app can honour the words. Ship it with the auto-close job. |
| Session packs | App: packs exist only as a spendable balance type; no pack products or prices; rules page says packs can be gifted. | Sep 8 copy: 5 Session Pack $275, 10 Session Pack $500. | Create the two pack products at those prices and lock them in the catalog guard. Ask Rory for expiry, points, and member pricing on packs. |
| Unlimited scarcity and booking perk | Aug 20 Slack and app: Unlimited has unlimited sessions, 10 percent retail, 2 guest passes; no cap, no booking perk. | Sep 8 card: 'only 15 spots available' and 'Priority Booking'. | Her wording ('or something like that on the card for the sense of urgency') reads as marketing. Ask whether 15 is enforced before building a cap; get a definition of Priority Booking before wiring it. |
Decided Sep 14: the founding rate stays for as long as the membership is continuously active, through tier changes too. Cancellation ends founding status and protected pricing. A lapsed card gets a one week retry window.
Where it stands: Rory answered on this page Sep 14. Website copy already matches. To build: forfeit founding status on cancellation or lapse (the app never forfeits today), and the one week retry window.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: 2 billing cycles. Every tier change starts a new minimum commitment of two full billing cycles. Upgrades are allowed anytime during the commitment, subject to availability. Downgrades and cancellations take effect after the commitment completes; a downgrade keeps founding status and lands on the next billing date after the commitment.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. The app already restarts the two cycle commitment on upgrade; to build: downgrade waits for the commitment end, and the membership change lock dates must match between preview and save (our QA found they disagree, tracked as RR-0149).
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: cancellation is a support conversation, never a button. Access runs through the paid period. The OS must be able to give partial refunds or a refund of any custom amount, with a note.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. Support-only cancellation is live. Staff can now refund a custom or partial amount with a reason and a note. In the production app since September 18; not yet tested end to end.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: Those Who Serve is 10 percent off standard pricing, never combined with founding pricing, for fire, police and military only (EMS removed). Faster rewards means 15 points per dollar instead of 10. A founding member who is also a first responder gets every Those Who Serve perk (welcome gift, bonus guest pass, faster rewards) on top of the founding perks, at founding pricing.
Where it stands: Rory and Daniel confirmed 10 percent Sep 14. Live in the production rules: 10 percent on standard pricing, fire, police and military only, 15 points per dollar. Not confirmed in the app yet: the welcome gift and the bonus guest pass.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: the retry window is one week. While Past Due, a member cannot book new sessions or attend booked ones until the card runs successfully. A booking attempt opens payment collection; staff checking in a previously booked session are prompted to collect payment. No tier can book sessions beyond the current 28 day billing cycle.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. In the production app, not yet tested end to end: the retry ladder and the 28 day booking horizon. Still in progress: the one week retry window and the Past Due booking and check-in gates.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: deleting an account keeps the visit and billing history, and does not cancel the membership. Billing continues until the member cancels with us. Every system says clearly that pausing or cancelling means reaching out to the studio.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. The delete path is now in the production app: a member asks to delete their account in the app, the studio reviews it, records are kept and the membership continues until they contact us. Still to test end to end.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: pauses exist, but only through the studio, never in the app. Staff can pause a membership; members are told to reach out.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. Staff can pause a membership in the production app; members see "To pause or cancel your membership, contact the studio." Still to test end to end.
See the section ↓Decided: retail discounts as on the website (Essential 5 percent, Complete 10 percent, Unlimited 10 percent, Core none). Every tier has rewards access and member-only events. Unlimited has Priority Booking.
Where it stands: Rory confirmed Sep 14 that the website is the reference. Live in production: Core 0, Essential 5, Complete 10, Unlimited 10.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: three completed referrals earn one free session.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. The reward logic (1 free session for every 3 qualifying referrals) is now in the production app. In the production app since September 18; not yet tested end to end.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: single session $60, members $54 (10 percent off).
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. Both numbers already live in the app.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: Unlimited is limited to 15 total memberships and has Priority Booking. Defined Sep 22: Unlimited members can book in advance for their entire 28 day period, up to 15 sessions.
Where it stands: The 15 membership cap is in the production app (reserved at checkout, real only once paid). Priority Booking is live as up to 15 future bookings held at one time inside the current paid 28 day cycle; once a visit happens it stops counting. If you meant 15 bookings in total per cycle, tell us on the call and we change it. Also to settle: how far ahead can the other tiers book?
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: the welcome kit is handed over at the first visit. The preview is one shared session for the member and one guest, member present. A founder who activates after the preview blocks have run does not receive the preview session. Opening week bookings open 48 hours early for founders.
Where it stands: Rory signed this section off Sep 14. Fulfillment tasks (kit, preview credit for two, 48 hour window) are build items.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: single sessions expire after 3 months, 5 packs and 10 packs after one year. Anything bought before opening starts its clock on opening day. Confirmed Sep 22: members get 10 percent off packs.
Where it stands: Packs and drop-ins are live in the production catalog ($60, $275, $500) with the 10 percent member discount. Expiry dates and the opening day clock are still to confirm in testing.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: a corporate package runs one year, renewable earlier if the sessions run out. The company names one contact who sends the approved employee list (names and emails, personal emails allowed). Ritual links existing accounts or sends invitations; employees accept with the approved email. The app shows corporate access and lets them book from the company balance; staff see the affiliation. The contact reports joiners and leavers, Ritual updates eligibility in the admin dashboard, and removing corporate access leaves the personal account intact.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. The Corporate page is live; the app side is a build item, sequenced after the first signing.
See the section ↓Decided Sep 14: more than one no-show in a 60 day period costs $40, charged to the account on the second no-show. After the first no-show, notifications carry a reminder of the rule.
Where it stands: Rory answered Sep 14. The $40 fee on a second no-show within 60 days is in the production app. Until payments go live it is recorded on the account and the card is not charged. In the production app since September 18; not yet tested end to end.
See the section ↓Four tiers, each billed every 4 weeks, each with a standard and a Founding Member rate. Prices, sessions, and guest passes in the table below are what the app enforces today. The retail discounts in the table match your Sep 8 website copy and are live in the production app.
Prices cannot drift: any attempt to save a plan that deviates from this approved catalog (price, sessions, perks, or the 4 week interval) is rejected by the system.
All language says billed every 4 weeks, never per month, everywhere: plans, checkout, receipts, emails, texts, and marketing.
Every card carries the same base line, in your words: 'Sauna, cold plunge, and rest areas included with each session', 'Access to member-only events', and 'Member rewards program'. Core has no retail discount.
Retail discounts match your cards: Essential 5 percent, Complete 10 percent, Unlimited 10 percent, Core none.
The 15 membership cap on Unlimited is in the production app and works like the 75 founding spots (reserved at checkout, real only once paid, released if payment fails). Priority Booking is live as up to 15 future bookings held at one time inside the current paid cycle; once a visit happens it stops counting. If you meant 15 in total per cycle, that is a change we make after the call.
Every tier includes rewards access and member-only events. Unlimited has Priority Booking and is limited to 15 total memberships.
| Plan | Standard | Founding | Sessions per 4 weeks | Perks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $169 | $149 | 4 | No retail discount |
| Essential | $219 | $195 | 8 | 5% off retail |
| Complete | $279 | $245 | 12 | 10% off retail, 1 guest pass |
| Unlimited | $350 | $309 | Unlimited | 10% off retail, 2 guest passes, priority booking, 15 spots |
Founding Member pricing goes to the first 75 people who activate a paid membership, in the words now on the site: 'Joining the waitlist is free, requires no commitment, and does not reserve a place.' After 75 paid activations, new signups pay standard rates. The program's public name is Ritual Founding 75.
The 75 cap is enforced so it can never oversell: checkout reserves a numbered founding spot for 30 minutes, the spot only becomes real once the payment is confirmed paid, and expired reservations are safely released. Founder numbers 1 through 75, assigned once, never duplicated.
The founding rate automatically carries through every renewal for as long as the membership stays active.
Continuity rule, public as of your Sep 8 copy: 'Receive special rates on all membership plans while your membership remains continuously active.' The founding rate follows the member through upgrades and downgrades. A lapse or cancellation ends it, and rejoining is at the current standard rate. With this published, the founding offer is final and the stronger waitlist marketing you asked us to hold can go out.
Enforcing the lapse side: today the app keeps a founder's record after a cancellation, so a lapsed founder who rejoins could still be priced as a founder. We mark the founder record forfeited when a cancellation executes or a lapse passes the final retry, so rejoining is at standard pricing. Forfeited founder numbers are not reissued; the 75 counts paid activations, not who is active today.
Tier changes keep the founding rate while the membership stays continuously active. Cancellation ends founding status and protected pricing. A lapsed card has a one week retry window.
Every founding card carries the same four extras, in your words: 'Protected membership rate while continuously active*', 'Curated welcome kit ($200 value)', 'Complimentary pre-opening session for you and one guest', 'Book opening week sessions 48 hours early'. The shared note under the cards reads: 'Founding benefits are available to the first 75 people who activate a paid membership. Joining the waitlist is free, requires no commitment, and does not reserve a place.'
Welcome kit: when a founding activation lands (invoice paid, founder number assigned), the app opens a staff task for that founder number so someone packs the kit, hands it over, and marks it done. Nothing about the kit is automatic beyond the task.
Preview session for two: one pre-opening preview credit for the member plus one guest, issued at founding activation and redeemable only in the preview blocks you open once the facility is approved for use. It sits outside the plan's sessions and guest passes and does not renew.
Opening-week priority booking: founding members can book opening-week sessions 48 hours before general booking opens. Non-founders see those slots with the time they open.
The card footnote reads 'Founding membership terms apply. Preview sessions will be offered in selectable blocks once the facility is approved for use.' No terms document exists yet. We draft it from this page once it is signed off and link it from the site.
Billing runs every 28 days exactly. You asked us to confirm the cycle date never moves for active members: confirmed. Upgrades, downgrades, and retries never shift the bill date; renewals advance it by exactly 28 days.
Charging happens on our own billing engine with the member's saved card. Stripe holds the cards and processes the payments; there is no third-party subscription that could drift from our rules.
If a charge fails, the retry schedule is built in: 24, 48, and 72 hours later, then once more a week out, applied by the daily billing run. The member is marked Past Due and gets a payment notification. The member can retry from their side any time, staff can retry from theirs, and duplicate charges are structurally prevented.
Real charging stays off while we finish pre-launch wiring: Stripe is deliberately in test mode and the daily billing run is still triggered manually. Making that run automatic is on the launch checklist, and nothing goes live until this page has your sign-off.
Past Due and the founding rate: Past Due does not break continuity while the retries run inside the one week window. The founding rate ends only when the account is closed after the retries fail (decision 1).
Past Due members cannot book new sessions or attend booked ones until the card runs successfully. A booking attempt opens payment collection; staff are prompted to collect payment at check-in for previously booked sessions.
No tier can book sessions beyond the current 28 day billing cycle.
Upgrades: the member pays only the price difference immediately and the new rate starts at the next bill date, or the whole change can simply wait for the next cycle. Either way the bill date does not move.
Downgrades: always take effect at the next renewal or the end of the minimum commitment, whichever is later. No mid-cycle refunds.
Every membership carries a 2 billing cycle minimum commitment. Every upgrade restarts that commitment; downgrades do not add one, so a downgraded member can upgrade again anytime, exactly as you described. Only one pending change can exist at a time, and a member who tries to stack another is told to contact the studio.
Every tier change starts a new minimum commitment of two full billing cycles. Upgrades are allowed anytime during it, subject to availability. Downgrades and cancellations take effect after the commitment completes; a downgrade keeps founding status and lands on the next billing date after the commitment.
There is no one-click cancel in the member app, by design. Cancelling is a conversation with the studio; staff run it from the admin side with a reason, a required note, and a confirmation step.
A cancellation is scheduled end-of-period: the effective date lands on the next cycle boundary, the two-cycle minimum commitment is enforced before it can be scheduled, and access continues through everything already paid.
A member who scheduled a cancellation and changes their mind can tap Keep Membership and everything is restored instantly.
The final step, the account automatically closing on its effective date, is still a manual staff action today. Automating it is on the launch checklist and gets built and verified before real billing ever turns on.
Anything outside the standard path (an early stop, a refund of a membership payment) is a staff exception that gets recorded and needs your approval.
When a scheduled cancellation executes, the founding rate ends with it. The person can rejoin later at the current standard rate. This ships together with the automatic close-out on the effective date.
Staff can refund a partial or custom amount, with a note, from the OS.
Those Who Serve is 10 percent, applied to standard pricing only and never combined with founding pricing, per your Sep 8 website copy.
There is also a 10 percent household discount for members in the same family group.
Discounts never stack, and your Sep 8 copy says so in public for Those Who Serve ('cannot be combined with founding pricing'). The founding rate, Those Who Serve, household, and any entered code all compete, and exactly one winner, the best deal for the member, is applied and recorded. There is no exception path to stack. While founding spots remain, the founding rate beats Those Who Serve on every tier, so a first responder in the first 75 simply takes founding pricing.
Verification is set by your copy: 'Valid service ID required at membership signup.' Staff look at the ID, apply the tag, and record the ID type and who checked it on the contact. No copy of the ID is stored.
Those Who Serve carries three extras beyond the price, in your words: 'A curated welcome gift' at activation; 'A bonus welcome guest pass. One extra pass for a guest or family member, issued once, in addition to any guest passes included in your plan every four weeks'; and 'Faster rewards'. Faster rewards (15 points per dollar) is in the production rules. The welcome gift and the bonus guest pass are not confirmed in the app yet; the bonus pass has to survive renewals, since plan guest passes are reissued every cycle.
Faster rewards: Those Who Serve members earn 15 points per dollar instead of 10.
Eligibility is fire, police and military. EMS was removed, matching your subheader.
A founding member who is also a first responder takes founding pricing and still gets every Those Who Serve perk: the welcome gift, the bonus guest pass and faster rewards.
Those Who Serve covers fire, police and military only; EMS is removed. Faster rewards means 15 points per dollar instead of 10. A founding member who is also a first responder gets the welcome gift, the bonus guest pass and faster rewards on top of the founding perks, at founding pricing.
Members can cancel a booked session up to 12 hours before it starts. Inside 12 hours the app refuses it, exactly as you specified; staff can override when it is the right call.
An eligible cancellation automatically returns the session to the member's balance. A guest spot paid online converts to a guest booking credit good for 180 days.
No-shows forfeit the session and the rolling count is tracked. A second no-show within 60 days adds the $40 fee to the account; until payments go live the card is not charged for it.
A session that is checked in or completed can never be cancelled.
The founding members' 48 hour head start on opening-week sessions is promised on the site and not built yet. Unlimited Priority Booking is live as up to 15 future bookings held at one time inside the current paid cycle. Every tier can book only within its current paid 28 day cycle.
More than one no-show in a 60 day period costs $40, charged on the second no-show. Notifications after the first no-show carry a reminder.
A single session is $60, confirmed by your Sep 8 copy ('Single sessions will be available for $60.'). The app charges $60 for a standard drop-in today.
Guest passes come with the plan: Unlimited includes 2 per 4 weeks, Complete includes 1, Core and Essential none. Passes refresh each cycle and do not roll over, and neither do unused sessions.
When a member books with a guest, the app spends the right thing in the right order: the membership balance first for the member, then passes, packs, and only then a charge.
Drop-ins and session packs can be gifted. Memberships cannot. Members in good standing get a small discount when gifting a pack.
Members buy single sessions at 10 percent off, $54.
Your Sep 8 copy adds packs to the Memberships page: 'Enjoy a single visit or save with a session pack. No recurring membership required.' Single Session $60. 5 Session Pack '$275 per pack', '$55 per session', 'Save $25 compared with individual visits'. 10 Session Pack '$500 per pack', '$50 per session', 'Save $100 compared with individual visits'.
Packs and drop-ins are in the production catalog: drop-in $60, 5 pack $275, 10 pack $500. A pack is spent after the membership balance and before any charge, and packs can be gifted.
Until opening, the pack cards on the site say 'Get Opening Updates' and record which option the person is interested in. Nothing is sold before opening.
Expiry: single sessions after 3 months, 5 packs and 10 packs after one year, and anything bought before opening starts its clock on opening day.
Members get 10 percent off packs (confirmed by Rory on September 22, and already set in the production rules).
Single sessions expire after 3 months; 5 packs and 10 packs after one year. Anything bought before opening starts its clock on opening day. Members get a discount on packs.
Your Sep 8 Corporate page sells four packages, 'Limited to 10 partner companies', every price 'per package': Premier $25,000 (1 company, 400 employee contrast therapy sessions, 8 private team experiences); Elite $10,000 (2 companies, 140 sessions, 4 experiences); Team $5,000 (3 companies, 65 sessions, 2 experiences); Community $2,500 (4 companies, 30 sessions, 1 experience). 'Each private team experience accommodates up to 12 participants.'
The site handles this by inquiry, not checkout: 'Ask About This Package' opens the 'Become a Ritual Partner' form (company name, contact name, email, phone optional, package of interest, message optional). When a tier fills it is marked 'Fully Reserved' and its button becomes 'Join the Corporate Waitlist'. Once all 10 places fill, the page becomes a corporate waitlist.
Later, after the first partner signs: the app needs a company account with a session pool (400, 140, 65, or 30), a way to link employees and spend one pool session per visit, private team experience bookings for up to 12 people, and a remaining-sessions count staff and the company contact can see. Per-tier limits (1, 2, 3, 4 companies) and the 10 company total are tracked by staff until then.
Still open before the first signing: whether unused corporate sessions expire, whether a team experience closes the studio to members for that block, and whether corporate sessions earn points.
One year term, renewable early if sessions run out. One company contact sends the approved employee list; personal emails allowed. Ritual links existing accounts or sends invitations; employees accept with the approved email. The app shows corporate access and books from the company balance; staff see the affiliation. Joiners and leavers come from the contact; Ritual updates eligibility in the admin dashboard; removing access leaves the personal account intact.
Members earn 10 points per dollar on membership payments and renewals. Redemptions are protected against double-spending, and refunds take back the matching points.
Rewards can be credits, discounts, retail items, or sessions, including a guest drop-in reward and a shareable session reward with sensible expiry windows.
The referral promise reads: refer 3 friends and receive a complimentary session.
The referral reward is in the production app: 1 free session for every 3 qualifying referrals, counted on the referred person's first paid membership. Not yet tested end to end.
As of Sep 8 every membership card lists 'Member rewards program' and 'Access to member-only events', so both are public promises for opening day. Points earning is live; events are an ops item, not an app item.
Faster rewards for Those Who Serve: 15 points per dollar, set in the production rules.
Three completed referrals earn one free session.
Members can ask to delete their account in the app (Delete my account). The studio reviews each request; visit and billing records are kept and the membership continues until the member cancels with the studio. In production, still to test end to end.
Pauses exist only through the studio: staff can pause and resume a membership in the app, and members are told to contact the studio. In production, still to test end to end.
Pauses now exist, through staff only. One question: does a paused membership still count as continuously active for the founding rate? Our suggestion: a pause you approve keeps the rate; a lapse does not.
Deleting an account keeps the history and does not cancel the membership; billing continues until the member cancels with the studio. Pausing or cancelling always means reaching out; pauses happen only through staff. Every system says so.
