The Social Media Program · three steps
The short version
Ritual Studio can win on Instagram before it ever opens because the exact lane it wants to own, branded teaching graphics with a warm coach voice, is the lane every competitor either ignores or does badly. The big national accounts prove the model works: Bathhouse built roughly 290K on carousels with no reliance on reels, HigherDOSE turned physiology into share-worthy plain-language graphics, and Othership sells the feeling and runs a Highlights system that answers every newcomer question. None of them are local. Locally the field is thin and beatable. Svette (about 4,578) leans almost entirely on pretty seaside photography with very little teaching. Plunge + Restore (about 909) runs benefit-list graphics but never coaches the mechanism and has no waitlist funnel. Urban Float University Place (about 2,642, with following nearly equal to followers) is a faceless franchise with a scattered float and BEMER menu. Ritual arrives with three things none of them own: a real founder story (athlete plus firefighter, recovery-as-necessity), a tech-free and phone-free communal hook a franchise can never claim, and a narrow contrast-therapy focus. The pre-launch job is not to be beautiful, it is to teach better than anyone in the county and turn every save into a founding-member-waitlist signup. The path to win: adopt the SYSTEM discipline of the big accounts (one visual world, topic-organized Highlights, one hard CTA per post) while keeping the warm human voice the nationals are too polished to use and the locals are too generic to reach. Build the waitlist as the single north-star metric from day one.

| HigherDOSE @higherdose | ~281-288K | Turns dense physiology into plain-language, share-worthy graphics, the whole brand is 'here's WHY this works for your body,' not 'buy this.' The local field (your real competition)
Everyone local is under 5,000 followers and mostly leans on photos, not teaching. This is wide open.

| Plunge + Restore @plungeandrestore | ~909 followers | WHAT WORKS: The closest model to Ritual's locked direction, they actually run BRANDED TEACHING GRAPHICS listing concrete benefits, positioning themselves as an educator, not just a booking page. The scorecard
The dimension, what the best peer does, and Ritual's play.
Content education
Best peer: HigherDOSE turns dense physiology into plain-language, share-worthy graphics (one mechanism made simple, 'here is WHY this works for your body' not 'buy this'), and Bathhouse proves carousels alone can carry a ~290K following.
Ritual: Run a named 'why it works' explainer-carousel series, one mechanism per carousel (heat shock proteins, the cold-and-vagus-nerve reset, the norepinephrine mood lift), written in coach voice not lab voice. Beat Plunge + Restore, whose graphics only list benefits...
Local reach
Best peer: Urban Float University Place anchors a repeatable weekly promo ('Wellness Wednesday') in Ritual's exact town, and Plunge + Restore cross-tags local partners to borrow audience cheaply.
Ritual: Cross-tag Tacoma and University Place gyms, run clubs, CrossFit boxes, pilates studios and firehouses so every teaching post borrows a local audience, and anchor one named weekly ritual post. Beat the franchise on a real founder and local roots it structurally...
Waitlist conversion
Best peer: Bathhouse pairs content with a single hard CTA (a code or a booking link) on nearly every post, and Othership's bio drives to one clear next step.
Ritual: End every carousel with one consistent branded CTA slide pointing to the founding member waitlist, and keep the bio link on that one destination only. Swap Bathhouse's discount-code feel for founding-member scarcity ('first 75 founding members'). No local...
Brand/voice
Best peer: Svette models a calm, human, no-AI-tell voice ('slow down, find some clouds'), and Othership sells the feeling and the ritual rather than the equipment.
Ritual: Lead with the athlete-and-firefighter founder story and recovery-as-necessity, in warm coach language, never luxury or mystical. Deliberately avoid Remedy Place's exclusive/mystical tone. Own the tech-free, phone-free 'third space' angle that no competitor...
Consistency
Best peer: Remedy Place has a locked branded template plus a custom icon set so even a plain quote reads instantly as theirs, and Svette owns one visual world where every post looks like the same place.
Ritual: Lock one graphic template, a two-or-three-color warm palette, one type system and a small custom icon set before posting anything, and stamp a consistent brand signature on every graphic. Beat Plunge + Restore, whose design consistency is uneven, and...
Saveable graphics
Best peer: HigherDOSE makes graphics people screenshot and send to a friend, and Remedy Place cites a real study line directly on the graphic so it reads as authority worth keeping.
Ritual: Design every carousel to be saved and shared: a clear teaching payoff, a one-line source under any stat for credibility without sounding clinical, and a 'save this' final beat. Saves and shares, not likes, are the pre-launch signal that the teaching is landing...
Content pillars
The five research themes the peer study surfaced. In the live plan they roll up into Rory's three pillars: Educate, Connect, and Invite.
Why It Works (the teaching engine)The core pillar and the reason to follow. Explainer carousels that teach one contrast-therapy mechanism at a time in warm plain language: heat shock proteins, the cold-plunge and vagus-nerve reset, the norepinephrine mood and focus lift, circulation and the 'contrast loop'. Coach voice, not lab voice, always with a save-worthy payoff and a one-line source. This is where Ritual out-educates every local account and earns authority like HigherDOSE.
The Founders (why this exists)The athlete-and-firefighter origin story and recovery-as-necessity worldview, told as founder-voice text graphics. This is Ritual's uncopyable edge against the faceless franchise and the polished nationals: a real human reason the studio is being built, and the credibility of people who have needed recovery to do their jobs. Warm, honest, no luxury gloss.
The Third Space (communal and phone-free)Teaser and manifesto graphics for the alcohol-free, tech-free, phone-free communal room. Sells the feeling and the ritual (the Othership model) and the 'social not spa' framing (the Svette lane), positioning Ritual as a place to actually be with people without screens. Pre-launch this converts curiosity into waitlist signups; post-launch it becomes the member-community and 'Overheard' voice pillar.
Recovery for Real Life (benefits, taught not listed)Quote and stat graphics connecting contrast therapy to the things the local audience actually cares about: sleep, stress and nervous-system regulation, soreness and training recovery, mood and resilience. The discipline that beats Plunge + Restore: never a bare benefit list, always tied back to the mechanism and to who it is for (athletes, first responders, busy people who train hard).
Local and Founding Members (the waitlist funnel)The pillar that ties every post to the business. A named weekly ritual post the audience returns for, cross-tagged collaborations with Tacoma and University Place gyms, run clubs, boxes and firehouses, and founding-member scarcity ('the first founding members'). Every graphic in every pillar ends here, on one consistent branded founding-member-waitlist CTA slide.
The pre-launch play
Now through opening. Build the waitlist and become the trusted local teaching voice.
Build a qualified founding member waitlist and become the most trusted teaching voice on contrast therapy in the Tacoma / University Place area, months before the doors open. Every metric that matters is downstream of one number: waitlist signups. Followers, likes and reach are only useful if they convert to the list.
Cadence
3 feed posts per week: one educational carousel, one Building Ritual or founder Reel, one community or invitation post, plus 3 to 5 Story frames per week. Consistency beats volume: a locked, repeatable weekly rhythm the audience can expect matters more than a high count. Lock the Story Highlights set as a permanent pre-launch FAQ before the first post goes live.
Formats
- Explainer carousels (the core format): one contrast-therapy mechanism taught per carousel, warm coach voice, ending on one founding-member-waitlist CTA slide
- Quote / benefit graphics: short emotional or coach-voice lines in the brand template ('recovery is not a luxury, it is maintenance')
- Stat graphics with a one-line source under the number, so authority reads as credible not clinical
- Founder-voice text graphics: the athlete and firefighter story, why they are building this, recovery-as-necessity
- Story Highlights as an always-on onboarding library: 'First Plunge', 'What to Expect', 'Why Contrast', 'Heat', 'Cold', 'Breath', 'The Waitlist'
- Community teaser graphics for the alcohol-free, phone-free 'third space' that convert curiosity into signups
Do
- Lock one visual world (template, warm palette, type, small icon set) before posting anything, so the grid reads as one brand pre-launch
- Cap direct waitlist asks at one feed post per week; other posts earn saves, sends, comments, and follows, and keep the bio link pointed only there
- Coin a small owned lexicon (a named house protocol, 'the contrast loop') so teaching feels like repeatable Ritual IP
- Teach the mechanism, not just a benefit list, so you out-educate every local account from day one
- Cross-tag local gyms, run clubs, boxes, pilates studios and firehouses to borrow warm local audiences for free
- Put a one-line source under any stat to earn authority in the athlete/firefighter-founded voice
- Use 'social' and 'communal' language over 'spa' or 'luxury', and keep the human, calm, no-em-dash voice
- Film casual phone Reels from day one and keep them unpolished and real; Bathhouse shows about 290K is reachable on graphics alone, so the Reels support the plan rather than carry it
Don't
- Do not copy Remedy Place's luxury/mystical/exclusive tone: it is the opposite of warm coach-not-luxury
- Do not run benefit-list graphics with no mechanism (the Plunge + Restore weakness) that read as generic wellness
- Do not scatter the message across many modalities: stay narrow on contrast therapy, unlike the franchise's float/BEMER sprawl
- Do not chase follower count or run follow-for-follow (the Urban Float tell): optimize for saves, shares and waitlist signups
- Do not let design drift into one-off pretty posts: cohesion beats the occasional beautiful graphic
- Do not use AI tells or em-dashes: keep every caption human and in Rory's real voice
The first four weeks
The original starter sketch from this research, kept for the record. The live 27 week calendar in the Content Studio supersedes it.
Week 1: Set the world and plant the flag: who we are and why we exist
- Founder-story carousel: the athlete and the firefighter, why they are building a contrast-therapy studio in University Place, recovery-as-necessity. Ends on the founding-member-waitlist CTA slide. (Pairs with the blog's founder / origin post.)
- Manifesto quote graphic: 'Recovery is not a luxury, it is maintenance.' Locked brand template, sets the coach voice for the whole account.
- Launch the Story Highlights FAQ set as branded graphics: 'What Is This', 'Why Contrast', 'The Waitlist'. The always-on pre-launch onboarding, built from graphics alone.
Week 2: Teach the mechanism: introduce the 'why it works' engine
- Explainer carousel: 'Why heat, then cold?' Introduce the named house protocol (the 'contrast loop'), one mechanism per slide, coach voice, save-worthy. (Pairs with the blog's contrast-therapy 101 post.)
- Stat graphic with a one-line source: a single credible number on cold exposure and mood or norepinephrine, cited under the stat for authority without sounding clinical.
- Add Highlights: 'Heat', 'Cold', 'Breath' as a topic-organized education library so pre-launch followers can teach themselves the experience.
Week 3: The third space: sell the phone-free communal feeling
- Teaser carousel for the alcohol-free, tech-free, phone-free room: what a Ritual visit feels like, 'social not spa', the third space between work and home. (Pairs with the blog's community / phone-free post.)
- Quote graphic in founder voice on being present without screens, warm and human, no AI tells.
- Local collaboration post: cross-tag a Tacoma or University Place gym, run club or firehouse, framed as 'recovery partners', to borrow a warm local audience. CTA to the waitlist.
Week 4: Recovery for real life plus the founder-list ask
- Explainer carousel: 'How contrast therapy helps you sleep and recover from training', mechanism taught not listed, tied to athletes and first responders. (Pairs with the blog's benefits post.)
- Introduce the named weekly ritual post (the recurring 'ritual' the audience returns for), stamped with the brand signature.
- Founder-list scarcity graphic: 'The first founding members shape this place', explicit hard CTA to join the founding member waitlist, closing the first month on the single north-star action.
After you open
What changes once the doors are open, and when filming comes in.
Goal: Convert the warm waitlist and educated local audience into booked members and repeat visits, and turn the physical studio and its real community into proof that the pre-launch teaching promised the real thing.
- The CTA shifts from 'join the founding member waitlist' to 'book your first session' and 'become a founding member', but stays one hard CTA per post
- Add a social-proof and community pillar: member voices, an 'Overheard'-style warm quote series (Remedy Place model), and first-timer wins, all still deliverable as branded text graphics
- Turn the pre-launch Highlights FAQ into a live onboarding and booking funnel: 'First Plunge', 'What to Expect', 'Book', 'Membership', 'Hours'
- Introduce the named weekly ritual as a real recurring in-studio event people can attend, not just a teaser
- Keep the teaching carousels running as the trust engine: education is what built the audience, so it does not stop at launch
- Begin light, tasteful use of the actual space and community in graphics (real light, real water, real people) now that there is a location to show
Filming: Add filming as a deliberate phase two, only after the graphics engine and the waitlist are proven and the studio is open with real members and real ambience to capture. Start small and low-lift: silent ambience clips of steam, water and the phone-free room, plus short founder-to-camera pieces in the same warm coach voice, before any produced reels. The order is intentional: prove the teaching-and-waitlist core first (the evidence, not the production value, is the constraint), then layer film on top of a brand people already trust. Do not let filming ambitions delay or dilute the graphics cadence that is doing the work.
How a new account grows with no ad budget
The tactics that actually move a small local account.
- Cross-tag and collaborate with local audiences you can borrow for free: Tacoma and University Place gyms, CrossFit boxes, run clubs, pilates and yoga studios, and firehouses. Frame them as 'recovery partners' so the tag is welcome, and let the founder's athlete and firefighter roots open real doors.
- Make every carousel engineered to be saved and shared, not just liked: a clear teaching payoff and a 'save this' beat. Saves and shares are what the algorithm rewards for a brand-new account with no ad budget, and they are the truest pre-launch signal that the teaching is landing.
- Own a small proprietary lexicon (a named house protocol, the 'contrast loop') so your teaching graphics are repeatable weekly and quotable, the way HigherDOSE's owned vocabulary makes its education feel proprietary.
- Anchor one named weekly ritual post so followers have a reason to come back on a schedule, building the return habit Urban Float gets from 'Wellness Wednesday' but with a real founder voice behind it.
- Run the Story Highlights as an always-on FAQ and education library from day one, so every new local visitor who lands on the profile can self-onboard and hit the waitlist without you posting anything new (the Float Seattle and Bathhouse structural strength, minus the reels).
- Use founding-member scarcity as the recurring hook: 'the first founding members', limited founding spots, early-access perks. Scarcity plus a single consistent CTA converts a warm local audience into a list far better than a generic 'follow us'.
- Seed the account before going public by having the founders, their gym communities and first-responder networks follow, save and share the first posts, so the account launches with real warm engagement instead of cold zero.
- Engage outward daily as the brand: thoughtfully comment and answer contrast-therapy questions on local Tacoma wellness, fitness and running accounts, so the coach voice earns discovery without spending on ads.
- Post on a locked, predictable cadence and never break the visual system: for a no-budget local account, consistency and instant brand recognition are the compounding growth lever, and they cost nothing but discipline.
